The leadless glazes, of course, do not contain lead as a recipe ingredient and may therefore be considered ‘extra safe’. Such glazes can be safely used in schools and studio potteries since they meet the requirements not only of the Education Memorandum 517 but also the stringent requirements of the Factory Acts. The low solubility glazes contain lead but this is present in a fritted, ‘non-toxic’ form. All powdered glazes featured in these pages are classified as either low solubility or leadless. This comprehensive range of basic glazes provides the potter with proven, reliable glazes formulated by experienced ceramists and checked by qualified teachers and studio potters.
